Like I sais above, this was only up for a couple days before Mr. Noone did his end of the year erasing.
My name is Laura, I'm 22 years old and I'm from Bloomington, IL. Most people think it's unusual for a 22 year old to only listen to 60's music, but I love it. I have a really neat record player that I got from my parents for christmas. It plays records, cds, has a am/fm radio, and a place for my i pod. Still trying to figure out how the i pod works. I am a regular shopper at the local second hand record store.
There isn't really much to do in Bloomington, granted it's the largest town in the county.
I drive a school bus for a living, and that requires me to wake up at 4:30AM and be out the door at 5:30AM. That's harsh, espicially since I am out running routes all day and I don't get home until 5:30PM. So I have a long work day.
My all time favorite TV show is NCIS.
I love music! My first exposure to music was in early October 1986 when I was less than 1 week old. Late one night my mom was trying to rock me to sleep and Huey Lewis and the News was appearing on a late nigt talk show. My mom tells me that the moment they started playing. I perked up and started looking around the room. I have always listened to 60's music, because that is the type of radio station my parents listened to in the car while I was growing up. In fact, my mom also tells me that when I was about 2 years old, I'd sit in my carseat and kick my legs in time to the music. My 17 year old sister doesn't understand my love for 60's music. If she sees me listening to it, she looks at me, rolls her eyes, and asks me how I can listen to "this crap" (her words not mine). And I ask her how she can listen to "crap music" (what I call rap music).
Welcome. You tell an even better story the second time around. Nice to meet you. If you don't have them already, don't forget to look on the homepage for Free Songs to download 8 free songs. Most of those songs were actually hits in the USA. With your busy schedule you need great music to listen to. Unlike your sister, I think you have chosen wisely. We are glad to have you as one of us. We're staying young even if our bodies get old. Thanks for joining us.
Welcome again Laura!! Those all in 1 stereos are cool! You should check e-bay for old Herman's Hermits records. When I was young, I had bought every Herman's Hermits album that was sold in our town. I can't believe I gave them all away when I got married!! I bought them all back from e-bay... plus some I never had! Sure wish I still had my original ones though...
Welcome again, Luara. I live in Davenport Ia which isn't all that far from you!! Feel free to click on my name for my email address. Would be happy to talk to you
Welcome to the Whirled of Peter Noone, Laura! You will have the best time here-Come in, sit a spell, post, chat, blog-There's a lot of nice people in here and Peter is a Dear-Really one Kewl Dude :)
Hi and Welcome, Laura! I used to be the sort of unofficial official greeter around here before there got to be so many people that it was impossible to keep track. Consider yourself unofficially officially welcomed, though, and pronounced a person of supreme good taste!
By the way, I live in Minnesota and we have a Bloomington here, too. There's a really huge Mall there. Maybe you have heard of it?????
Welcome to the Wide Wonderful Whirled of Peter Noone Fun, Laura! I'm so glad you are here! There are people here of all ages and you will enjoy it here. I love the story of how you came to love 60's music! When I was very young, I had lots of siblings that were are a lot older than me (They still are! LOL!) and I loved listening to "their" music, so I completely understand how you can love music that your generation doesn't listen to. The other other young people here feel the same way, so you fit right in!
Heyyy again, Laura! The oldies are just labeled wrong I think and that's what makes them seem less hip. My brothers new wife now, who's just turned 22 says I'm old cause I like oldies music. Maybe we should just rename all the 50's 60's music to advanced?!
It's kind of like the Easy Listening station which everybody young automatically frowns at too (including my young husband, who is almost 50 lol) and then when they hear a cool song they hadn't hear in a while, they're shocked it's on 102.5 KEZK. It just turns out that OLD and EASY aren't helpful words for anyone's reputation, I don't think! LOL
Glad you're here, Laura and hope to meet you in chat soon! :) Cassie
welcome Luara you will have fun here i grew up with 60s music my dad and mom gave me and my 2 brothers the Beatles records and Herman Hermits records to plus other groups the 60s were a happening i like hearing the 6os music on the oldies station plus i dance to some songs when i go to a concert. again welcome and enjoy your self and have fun,
Welcome Laura! I'm from south Texas. My husband is an ex musician and we have "brainwashed" all 3 of our kids to love 60's music. My son wore his Peter Noone/Herman's Hermits tee shirt to school and his friends thought it must be a new band, ha ha! Have fun here and get to know everybody. Hope to see you at a concert sometime!
Hi Laura! How COOL that you drive a school bus! Did you know we rented one once for a fan gathering in Milwaukee? You have to be very patient to deal with a busload of children (or Noonatics : ) so my hat's off to ya!
Herman has so many fans in their 20s, so I am sure you will meet more this year! I am so happy to meet young women who love him!
Thanks for adding to our January fun by posting! I'm off to your New Year's resolutions topic next!!!
I love driving a school bus, its so much fun, esp when you have the little pre-k kids. I get to drive one of the big buses (holds 86 kids). The only parts I don't like are when the kids are esp rowdy, but my kids are all really good. I sing children's songs and talk to them to help keep them calm. It really helps. And what also sucks, is when the roads are bad (icy and/or snow coverd, foggy, wet) esp the country roads. There was one occurance eariler this school year that was really frightening. I had to run my PM route, which happens to be a country route during a winter storm. The roads were icy, and snow covered. I had a hrd time telling where the road even was. The winds kept trying to blow me off said road, it was dark, and visibility was pratically zero.
Wow, 60's girl! It sounds like you are very patient and mature - and a great driver! I know several 22-yr.-olds that I'd NEVER feel safe riding with and don't want my kids riding with! LOL! (Not many, though.) I use to teach and know it takes a lot of patience and maturity to deal with kids. I was in my early 20's and had a lot to learn. LOL!
All I have to say Laura Peter must be doing something right to attract people in their 20s:) I too WELCOME you. By the way can you play music in your bus Laura if you can Herman's Hermits would be fitting:)
Yep. I can play music on my bus, it even has a CD player. How cool is that? So you can bet that I play Herman's Hermits for my kids on a regular basis.
I almost forgot Laura my son is 22 and goes to Kent State University in Ohio he is majoring in Electronic Media. My son wants to get into the music business or journalism. I have to tell you Laura these past few months he has been surprising us he really likes the oldies. This past Christmas my son raided our record albums he loves Bob Dylan jazz and R&B. I did not get a chance to see what he took I will see when he brings them back:):) If I recall I think I saw a Peter Paul & Mary album:) I just wanted to share that with you Laura you have someone your age that enjoys the oldies too:):)
A foot note here Laura trying to get him to come to see Peter sometime I know he would like him:):)
Hey, I am also new to joining and a youngster (24 years old). Herman's Hermits was my first tape that I ever had! My favorite song will always be Leaning on a lamp post! It is always nice to find others of our generation appreciating the talent of the 60s!! :)
Welcome Laura & kirad1-------------- I'm so glad that y'alls 'generation' is being brought -up right...with Herman's Hermits music! I went to see my first concert in 1966...woweeeeeeee, it was so much fun to ACTUALLY & FINALLY meet Peter Noone in 2005!!!! Y'all are going to just love it here!!!
Welcome Laura and Kira from me, Sus, in cold and snowy Wisconsin! I hope to meet you both at a concert or in chat. This truly is a fun bunch. If you have any questions, just let any one of us know and we will try to help. Bye for now!!
Hello Peter, I'm also new here in the forum. My wife was a big fan of yours. She died last summer. I miss her, but I know she would love to know that I'm coming in here now and then to check thing out. She hadn't join your funfan club and I don't know if I will I may some day. It sound like a whole lot of FUN. The fans are so nice in chat. I have been to a dozen of your concerts over the years. Saw you the first time years ago in Dayton or was that Columbus. I have 2 grandkids and they just love your music. I have to play it almost everytime they come over. I'm so surprise that at their age so young, they like 60's music. I have taken them to the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland a few times, they love going. Oh!Peter my dear wife was in love with you from the start of your career. She has with her one of your t-shirts and a 45- Henry the 8th. So up in Haven she can still hear you sing. Thank you, Peter for being you.
